Since Brooke and I met over a year ago at a wedding, she has been one of my go-to creative gals in New Orleans! We have brainstormed together, encouraged one another, and even cried together! She is such a genuine and loving woman who also happens to be an extremely creative businesswoman! Her wedding planning business is new, but it is taking off!
How long have you been in business? How did you start?
I broke into the event industry working as an assistant for a wedding planner, while also working as an assistant for a specialty wedding décor company. After about a year, I became the assistant manager for a wedding venue. I love the path that I have taken to get to this point and the experience I gathered along the way, but my true passion has always been wedding planning. In November of 2013, I created Southern Charm Weddings Louisiana and it has been one of the most rewarding and inspiring experiences of my life!
What keeps you inspired in your work?
There are so many things that I am inspired by. My clients are all very different which makes it a lot of fun designing their wedding to match their individual style and tastes. I follow dozens of online wedding blogs to keep up with the latest wedding trends and to see what other planners have designed in the past. I also consider myself a hopeless romantic, so being around couples in love is inspiring in and of itself.
What is your favorite type of bride to work with?
My ideal client is someone who strays away from a “cookie cutter wedding”. I love when couples add their own personal touches to their big day such as using an old family recipe for the desserts or bottling their own wine for the favors. These are always fun weddings to plan and design!
What makes New Orleans weddings and brides unique?
New Orleans is such a fun and laid back city that I find our brides are also fun and laid back. I become friends with a lot of my couples and we keep in touch even after their big day which I love!
What’s your favorite thing about being in the New Orleans wedding industry?
I love that you can get married in a plantation, a creole cottage, a jazz hall, a courtyard or a ballroom and they are all within fifteen minutes of each other. New Orleans offers the perfect setting for any bride.
What is your favorite thing about living in New Orleans?
We live just south of the city and it is really perfect! We have two large dogs and as much as we love the space so they can run around, it’s nice having New Orleans so close when we want to have a night out with friends or a date night.
What is a daily ritual you can’t live without?
Every day before I go to bed, I take an hour for myself to relax and decompress after the work day. I try to do something that doesn’t involve my phone, laptop or television. A lot of times I’ll read a couple chapters from my latest book series, play with my two dogs, or sit outside and drink a glass of wine with my husband.
How can a bride make an appointment with you?
